The article is devoted to investigating the problem of French-Russian cultural relations in the first quarter of the eighteenth century. In particular, the problem of perception of French literature by metropolitan nobility. Revealing of bookish culture peculiarities in the article is based on examining and analyzing private book collections of the emperor, Peter the Great, and a number of outstanding public figures of the Peter’s epoch. The article is based on archive documents (including unpublished) and autobiographical historical sources.
